Welcome to the NIML
The Neurophysiological Imaging and Modeling Laboratory (NIML) at The University of Idaho Department of Biological Engineering is led by Dr. Bryn Martin. We conduct clinical translational research to investigate the pathophysiology of central nervous system disorders and develop related medical technologies. To help translate these findings and technologies to the clinic, we collaborate with neurosurgeons, neurologists, neuroradiologists and medical device manufacturers.
IMPORTANT: Dr. Martin is searching for a PhD/MS student to work on a NASA sponsored research project with a strong interest in imaging analysis and with good background in engineering, mathematics and programming skills.
Research
Current NIML imaging and modeling focus topics include:
- Cerebrospinal fluid system physiology
- Advanced MRI and ultrasound imaging and post-processing techniques
- Computational fluid dynamics simulation of biological flows
- Astronaut eye and brain biomechanics
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Parkinson's
- Chiari malformation and hydrocephalus
- Intrathecal drug and gene vector delivery
- Neuropheresis
- In vitro modeling
- Virtual reality for medical applications
